The list got cheap. The conversation did not.
Coverage is a coward’s metric. AI made the file free and the excuse better. Teams still celebrating how much of the TAM they touched are about to teach spam filters their brand.
Read more →Seventy-five percent of quota-hitters already use AI. That is not an advantage. The advantage is asking the same questions every time, so Thursday’s hire does not rediscover Tuesday’s facts on a new invoice.

Chat-shaped products train people to be clever once. The clever prompt lives in someone’s head, or in a doc named final-v3. The next hire asks the agent something adjacent and gets a different shape of research. Clients notice. Finance notices when you re-run the same questions as new credits. You call it iteration. It is roulette with a receipt.
LinkedIn’s 2024 sales briefing said 75% of sellers who hit quota were using AI to help get there. Read that as table stakes, not a moat. If three quarters of the people who make number are already prompting, “we use AI” is no longer a strategy. It is the entry fee. HubSpot’s 2024 sales report found 45% of sales professionals overwhelmed by the number of tools in the stack, and reps with about two hours a day that count as selling. Prompt roulette is how you spend the two hours, and how the stack gets a new tab. Sources: LinkedIn, HubSpot.
Plain-English Find Leads prompts are still how you describe an ICP. Playbooks are how you describe what good research looks like after the list exists: the same extra fields, the same firmographics, the same questions, the same tone, on every row. Recent funding. Tech stack. The role they are hiring. Create one, attach it when you enrich or when the agent runs. On the grid you add the columns without exporting to the sheet where the prompt goes to die. Mixing “who should we talk to” and “what is true about this person” in one chat box is how you get poetry instead of a field you can sort. Poetry does not survive a share link. A column does.
This is not “prompt engineering is over.” It is “prompt engineering is a demo.” The second teammate on Thursday is the product. If they cannot see the recipe, they will write a new one, and you will pay for both. When the ICP changes, you edit the playbook. You do not hope the next session remembers. University: AI playbooks and custom columns.
A recipe that is allowed to leave a field empty is a recipe. A chat that fills every blank with atmosphere is a liability. The model will invent a partnership so the preview looks finished. The prospect will notice on row one of the twenty they actually read. Gartner’s buyers already report that 69% see the website and the seller disagreeing. Do not add a third narrator who makes up the funding round. If the column is empty, send later or send a plain note. The essay next to this one is the icebreaker is a timestamp. A playbook is how the timestamp stays a fact.
Boring means every row gets the same questions, every teammate sees the same fields, and the client looking at a research view sees the same story the campaign will use. Clever is a meeting. Boring is a system. You do not have two hours a day to be clever twice. You have two hours to talk to the people the recipe said were real. Spend them there.

Best of breed is how you hide from the handoff. Five copilots, five memories, and a reply that lands in none of them. A go-to-market is one motion, or it is theatre.
